One spring morning, Kesel decided to rise early and catch the morning sun as it bathed the once-prosperous mining community of Superior, Arizona, some 60 miles east of Phoenix.
As he approached Superior, the sun was rising. The windsock above the long abandoned hanger at the Superior Airport offered a somewhat surreal image. Kesel found the sun drenched front of the hanger irresistible. An added bonus was the deep charcoal colored sky accenting the gold and green of the structure.
Note: Kesel recently visited Superior and, to his dismay, found that the airport hanger had been eliminated from the site. Another landmark of an historical era gone.
