The mining tailings in the background complete the story by giving the viewer a sense for the era the truck was from, as well as the duties in which it was involved.
This photo was created on one of the many trips Kesel has made to Jerome, Arizona - a former ghost town now turned into an artist community. By shooting the well-preserved Studebaker truck straight-on, from a low point-of-view with a wide angle lens, Kesel gives it an almost human quality. With the bright shiny chrome on the headlights, the Studebaker emblem and the mirrors, the truck appears to be smiling from inside.
