The mystery and beauty of Antelope Canyon in Northern Arizona make it one of Kesel’s favorite places to visit. On the Navajo land near Lake Powell, this magical slot canyon has more beauty and captivating combinations of striking rock formations and rich saturated light than any other Kesel has visited. For all its beauty - photographing it is always a challenge. The high contrast of light requires careful consideration in order to hold detail in the shadows while not losing color saturation in the brilliant highlights. Kesel discovered this gem as he was leaving Upper Antelope Canyon. The bright light entering through the canyon opening lit up the walls with a rich orange glow. By setting up several yards back from this narrow passage and using a long exposure on a tripod, Kesel was able to capture all the magic of the rock surfaces as well as the rich orange glow created by reflected sunlight on the sandstone near the canyon entrance..
