This site is called “Eye of the Sun” by the Navajos because they would use the formation and the way the light passed through it to help them keep track of the seasons. This dramatic rock formation in Monument Valley was named by the native Navajo Indians who occujpy this sacred land along the Arizona-Utah border in Northeastern Arizona. Kesel planned this shot by observing the light for several days and selecting an early morning hour to avoid disturbing highlights created later in the day when direct light passed through the eye..
